A Rare Set of Five Famille Rose Baluster Vases and Covers, Qianlong Period, 1736-1795.


A rare set of five Famille Rose vases, all decorated in the Rose/Imari pallet. Brightly painted with a bird sat on a blossoming tree above a rockwork base in underglaze blue. Famille Rose flowers and leaves interspersed.  Gilding highlighted throughout the decoration. The reverse with a bird inflight, above a pomegranate sprig and green butterflies in the distance. The collar decorared with large Ruyi shaped borders, with fan shaped emblems in between. The covers similarly decorated to the neck in typical Imari style with underglaze blue fan shaped emblems.

Condition: one cover with a crack restored. One cover with two minor bruises to the rim. One vase with a star crack cleaned.

Height: Two vases 41cms tall. Three vases 45cms tall.
